UNRIYO LECTURER WIN COMPETITION HEALTH PROMOTION MEDIA

So far, posters, banners or billboards have always been an option as a medium for disseminating information, especially health messages. The media is indeed the main choice. However, whether it is enough to be 'eye catching' (attracting attention), especially among young people, still needs to be questioned.

The millennial generation is synonymous with all things that are contemporary and 'alternative culture'. This generation's choice is something 'fun', 'simple' but 'kicking'. Health messages for this generation must be far from long-winded or clichéd sentences.

Millennial generation health literacy needs to be worked on from an early age because in the next ten years, they will be the ones who will manage this country. Adequate health literacy will not only lead a person to a healthy lifestyle, but will also become a quality generation of embryos.

The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia and Gadjah Mada University through the Health Promotion Program at Gadjah Mada University (HPU) held several activities in order to create a healthy campus. One of them is the Health Promotion Media Competition which includes poster, video and photo essay competitions.

This competition was participated by the campus community, both students and lecturers from all over Indonesia. Friday, December 17, 2021, at the UGM Central Building, the winners of the Health Promotion Media Competition were handed over. The winner of the Photo Essay competition is Dr. drg. Theresia Puspitawati, M Kes who is a lecturer in the Health Sciences Undergraduate Program, Faculty of Health Sciences, Universitas Respati Yogyakarta.

The theme of the photo essay is 'Message Tong': Functional and Millennial Health Literacy. This photo essay raises the issue of alternative media for health messages through the media of used paint containers. The use of bins as a medium for health promotion will at the same time be part of the application of the 3R principles (reduce, reuse, recycle) in waste management. 'Tong Message' is the right choice as a media for health promotion, especially for the millennial generation. Tong is functional and 'tempts' millennials to 'occupy' it so it has great potential as a health promotion medium. When they read the written message, it will be a stimulus for the formation of an awareness and is expected to be realized in action.
